Play Outside

In the age of technology where children now won't know what its like to grow up with out the internet and many have their own Iphone by the average age between 5-10 and often even earlier... its refreshing to still see kids who play outside.  This is something that my family did a lot growing up and continue to do with EJ.  My parents watch her once a week and are constantly taking EJ to the park or on walks around the neighborhood. My Dad seems to know almost every park in the area and all the cool things and places to take her. Its really cute. But aside from that, I just love seeing the kids interact with one another running around, exploring, learning and figuring things out.

I hope you find time to get out this week, enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Here are a few of my favorite local kid friendly places to visit:

Danville
Oakland
San Ramon

Walnut Creek

Hello!

Hi there... This is my first Pig Tails and Fairy Floss post and I just wanted to introduce myself and the direction of this blog. While I'm not a Mom, I am an Auntie and I feel like almost all my friends have children. Its a world of its own that I am surrounded by and joyously live in. My darling 14 month old niece is one of the main inspirations for this venture in addition to I like to think that one day I will have children of my own. So with that, perhaps this is just a bit of preparing in advance, education, and a bit of a social experiment.

Professionally, I come from the apparel world, from all things retail, logistics, operations and supply chain to buying.  I YELP! everything I can and rely heaving on restaurant and product reviews in making my purchase decisions. I've watched my sister and friends debate over how long to breast feed, bottle nipples, sippy cups, and of course diapers. There should be and maybe there already is an encyclopedia written on diapering.  I love sourcing products for the boutique I manage knowing that we are working with local community artisans and designers and businesses who have socially responsible ethos.

For many this is a way of life, for others its a trend, but when it comes to our kids and the little babes in our lives, I feel that we should know exactly what we are putting on our child, the toys we give them and where the products they use come from. And maybe we do, maybe the answer to many of these questions is China, Vietnam, or other countries across the globe, and maybe that's fine for many. But what if you found products that are just as good or even better that are made in your community, or even within the USA. What if you found the same products that are made by a company who sources their materials responsibly and has less of an impact on the environment...would that make a difference?  I'd like to think so. For some, there may be a financial factor as to why they purchase products made overseas versus USA made, for others maybe its not something they give much thought to or care about. But whichever the one of these you identify with, I am hoping to share alternative options with you so you can make the best choices for your family. Thanks for reading and I look forward to the journey!
